Dato' Lat's Kampung Boy in Frankfurt

I'm sure many of you have read ' Kampung Boy' by Dato' Lat. (i am not really a book person but i do read this comic). i read the comic for the first time when i was seven. it is my aunty's collection. i was attracted by the drawings, and also the messages he's trying to deliver through his cartoons. it talks about anything. sarcasm to the politicians, life and attitudes of Malaysians and almost everything that is in our schemata. and, it is funny and ouchy.

this morning, as i was cleaning the house, i was stopped by Majalah 3 on tv3 broadcasting a full report from Frankfurt, Germany at the Frankfurt Book fair on October 16th, 2008.
(it is already kind of late to talk about it, i know, because i read newpaper occasionally.hehehe)
i learnt that the bookfair is the largest bookfair in the wolrd that no writers would have the heart to decline it if invited. the comic was translated into Germany by the ITNM (Institut Terjemahan Negara Malaysia) for the readers there. the comic is also available in 8 other languages like French, Chinese, Japanese, English, Portugese and others.

like we have Jimmy Neutron, Sponge Bob Square Pants and what not in our house, the Germans also have Kampung Boy in their living room. i was quite surprise and i should say proud watching a family of two kids sitting in their living room watching the show. it plays the same theme song like the one we have in Astro Ceria, with the same characters and all, but in Germany.

even though i don't really like watching the show on TV (i enjoy the comic more), it is such a victory and something to be proud of knowing that Malaysian books are read all over the world. after 30 years of publishing, Kampung Boy is still being published and requested by people. it is good to know that there are products of ours that are worthy to be appreciated by other countries.
